On the need of an ultramassive black hole in OJ 287

چکیده

Abstract The highly variable blazar OJ 287 is commonly discussed as an example of a binary black hole system. 130 year long optical light curve well explained by model where the central body massive 18.35× 109 solar mass that supports thin accretion disc. secondary 0.15× impacts disc twice during its 12 orbit, and causes observable flares. Recently, it has been argued with typical AGN rate above mentioned should be at least six magnitudes brighter than 287’s host galaxy would therefore observationally excluded. Based on observations radio jet, detailed in Marscher Jorstad (2011), up-to-date models Azadi et al. (2022), we show V-band magnitude unlikely to exceed brightness more one magnitude, could fainter host. This because power necessary launch jet create electromagnetic radiation, distributed across many wavelengths, not concentrated especially V-band. Further, note claimed concentration leads serious problems while interpreting other Active Galactic Nuclei. Therefore, infer primary do need smaller what determined standard for 287.

Black hole mass and binary model for BL Lac object OJ 287

Recent intensive observations of the BL Lac object OJ 287 raise a lot of questions on the models of binary black holes, processing jets, rotating helical jets and thermal instability of slim accretion disks. After carefully analyzing their radio flux and polarization data, Valtaoja et al. (2000) propose a new binary model. Based on the black hole mass of 4×108M⊙ estimated with the tight correla...

OJ 287 as a Rotating Helix

We present preliminary data from high-cadence 15-GHz VLBA images of OJ 287 from 1995 to 2015. The ridgelines suggest that the jet is rotating, perhaps with a period of ∼30 years. The EVPA of the core rotated by 240◦ in 2001–2002 and decreased slowly after that. The inner jet apparently moved to a new direction after the rotation, as shown by the emergence of a new component at a new PA at 43 GH...

Extraordinary Activity in the BL Lac Object OJ 287

We use a continuous wavelet transform to analyze more than two decades of data for the BL Lac object OJ 287 acquired as part of the UMRAO variability program. We find clear evidence for a persistent modulation of the total flux and polarization with period ∼ 1.66 years, and for another signal that dominates activity in the 1980s with period ∼ 1.12 years. The relationship between these two varia...

A giant radio jet ejected by an ultramassive black hole in a single - lobed radio galaxy

We report the discovery of a very unusual, highly asymmetric radio galaxy whose radio jet, the largest yet detected, emits strongly polarized synchrotron radiation and can be traced all the way from the galactic nucleus to the hot spot located ∼ 440 kpc away. This jet emanates from an extremely massive black-hole (> 109M⊙) and forms a strikingly compact radio lobe. No radio lobe is detected on ...

The OJ 287 colors during a multiwavelength campaign

In 2005 the blazar OJ 287 exhibited an interesting variable behavior in the optical band. An optical outburst was observed in the period Oct.-Nov. 2005, and two XMM-Newton X-ray observations were performed in correspondence with two active optical states of the source (an intermediate flare and such claimed outburst). These satellite pointings triggered and invited observations by several radio...
